John L. Smith on Davis: ‘he’s going to have to have a hit or two’

After missing all of last season with an ankle injyry, Arkansas running back Knile Davis was held from contact during spring drills while continuing to regain his health.

Come fall camp, however, Davis will have to test his durability in preparation for the 2012 season.

“I think a lot of it is mental, and I think he’s going to have to have a hit or two,” coach John L Smth said of Davis. “Now, maybe not three or four. But a hit or two … I think he needs it for his sake in being as healthy and as good as he can be during the season, I think he’s going to need to take a hit on it.”

It was during fall camp last year that Davis injured his ankle. Davis rushed for 1,322 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2010.
