Texas adds ex-Duke punter

Yeah, it’s just a punter, but Texas has officially added a player who can help the Longhorns’ special teams immediately in 2012.

In a release, the Longhorns confirmed that Alex King has enrolled at graduate school and will complete his final season of eligibility at UT. King comes to the Austin school from Duke, where he was the Blue Devils’ punter for each of the past two seasons.

As he has already received a degree in history from Duke, he will be eligible to play this coming season without sitting out a transfer year.

“The coaches, facilities, fans, and strong football tradition first attracted me, but in such a short time period the relationships between myself and the coaches and staff at UT are what made me feel most comfortable with changing schools for my final year,” King said in a statement. “There is so much talent at UT, and I was also impressed with the humility of many of this year’s incoming freshmen when I met them. I am excited to be a part of this team.”

King “played” in 24 career games and averaged 41.38 per punt, the fourth-best career average in school history. He was named second-team All-ACC last season.
