Sliding across the hood of a car back in early April, a la the Dukes of Hazzard, because he was reportedly drunk as a skunk landed Michigan defensive tackle Will Campbell separate felony and misdemeanor charges of malicious destruction of property.
As John and some of you opined, the crime didn’t exactly fit the charge, and it turns out Campbell won’t be charged with a felony after all. The Detroit Free Press reports Campbell’s felony charge of malicious destruction of property worth more than $1,000 but less than $20,000 has been waived in exchange for a guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge.
As part of the agreement, Campbell will likely receive one year’s probation and will have to pay $2,100 in restitution for the damage to the car, a 2003 Lincoln Towncar.
Campbell has played in 17 games along Michigan’s defensive line and has eight total tackles and a pair of sacks. He is expected to be a part of the Wolverines’ d-line rotation this fall.
