All-Big East tackle to miss ‘Cuse’s camp due to injury

As Syracuse gets set to start summer camp Aug. 6, the Orange will do so without one of the top offensive tackles in the Big East.

Whether that absence will bleed into the regular season remains to be seen.

By way of the Syracuse Post-Standard, head coach Doug Marrone confirmed during a radio interview Monday that lineman Justin Pugh (pictured, No. 67) will be unable to participate this camp due to what’s only being described as an upper-body injury. It’s believed to be the same injury that kept him out of the Orange’s spring game earlier this year.

It’s unclear if Marrone addressed Pugh’s status for the regular season opener against Northwestern during the interview.

The 6-6, 292-pound senior has started 25 straight games at left tackle, and was named first-team All-Big East following the 2011 season. He was a second-team selection following his sophomore season in 2010.
