Louisville’s top receiver tears ACL

Louisville coach Charlie Strong had to deliver the news no fan ever wants to hear, especially this close to the season.

As was noted in the one-liners last night, Cardinals wide receiver Michaelee Harris re-injured his left knee during practice. Unfortunately for Harris and UL, the worst possible scenario has come to fruition.

Strong announced Friday that Harris has a torn ACL. Although there was no timetable given for his return, I would imagine this means he’s done for the season. It’s his second ligament injury to his left knee and fourth overall in three years.

Harris originally tore a ligament in his left knee during preseason camp in 2010 and missed the entire season. In 2011, he tore the PCL in his right knee and missed spring practice. Then, he tore the ACL in his right knee last December and missed Louisville’s Belk Bowl appearance.

Harris (pictured, No. 22) is the team’s leading receiver from last year (yards), catching 37 passes for 455 yards and two touchdowns. With Harris out, the Cards are going to have to rely on a group of young receivers to pick up the slack.
