Tide loses corner to transfer, receiver to injury

Defending BcS champion Alabama’s depth took a bit of a hit Friday as it was learned a pair of players (likely) won’t be available for the 2012 season.

In a press release, the Tide confirmed that cornerback Travell Dixon has decided to leave the football program. The reason cited was “personal” ones.

“We certainly hate to see any player leave our program, but we understand the situation and we wish him the best of luck in the future,” head coach Nick Saban said in a statement.

Dixon enrolled at Alabama in January of this year after transferring in from Eastern Arizona Community College.

On the injury front, incoming freshman wide receiver Chris Black suffered a shoulder injury during practice on Monday and will be out of action for 3-4 months. Such a time frame means a return in mid-November at the earliest, which suggests a redshirt is in Black’s future.

Black, a four-star member of the Tide’s 2012 recruiting class and one of the top receivers in the country, was expected to contribute immediately as a true freshman.
