‘Personal issues’ leave Miss. St. sans WR coach

With less than two weeks left before the first game of the 2012 season, Dan Mullen has an unexpected hole on the offensive side of in his Mississippi State coaching staff.

The Bulldogs acknowledged Sunday night that wide receivers coach Angelo Mirando has abruptly resigned his post at MSU. Other than personal issues, no reason was given for the departure.

An MSU official also confirmed to Matthew Stevens of the Commercial Dispatch that “Mirando was not arrested over the weekend” and that the university is “currently unaware of the resignation being related to any legal situation [between] Mirando or the university.”

“I want to stress that these issues are personal,” the now-former assistant said in a statement. “I want to thank my friend and mentor Dan Mullen for giving me this chance.”

Mirando began his MSU coaching career in 2009, serving as a grad assistant for two seasons. In 2011, he was promoted to receivers coach by Mullen.

“We’ll take some time to evaluate what our next steps will be with that staff position,” Mullen’s statement began, “but I’m confident in our veteran group of wide receivers and know they’ll be focused and ready to go Sept. 1.”

The Bulldogs open the new season that day with a home game vs. Jackson State.
