Over the weekend, Mississippi State announced that wide receivers coach Angelo Mirando had abruptly left the football program due to what was described as “personal issues.”
Four days later, it appears Dan Mullen has plugged the hole in his Bulldogs coaching staff.
According to Pete Roussel of coachingsearch.com, former Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster has accepted the receivers job at MSU. Roussel writes that Mullen interviewed Brewster for the position in Starkville Wednesday morning.
Obviously, the school has yet to confirm the hiring, although an official announcement could happen as early as today.
After spending 2002-06 at the NFL level, he accepted the head coaching job at Minnesota in 2007. He was fired midway through the 2010 season after compiling a record of 15-30, including a 6-21 mark in Big Ten play.
Prior to his time in the NFL, he worked on college coaching staffs during stops at Texas (1998-2001, tight ends) and North Carolina (1989-1997).
Brewster spent 2011 as a sideline reporter on FOX college football broadcasts, and was slated to be a CBS Sports analyst in 2012.
