Penn State transfer not eligible for Baylor in ’12

Any hope Baylor held of Shawn Oakman contributing immediately to its defensive line have officially been dashed. Probably

The Waco Tribune reports that the defensive end’s appeal for immediate eligibility has been denied by the NCAA. Baylor, however, has appealed that decision, although it’s expected that move will be denied by The Association as well.

Oakman was dismissed from Penn State earlier this year following an arrest. While NCAA sanctions against the Nittany Lions dictate that any current or incoming player could transfer and not sit out the season as normally required, Oakman was given the boot months prior to punitive measures slapped on the PSU football program.

Oakman was a four-star member of Joe Paterno‘s final recruiting class at Penn State in 2011.
