Five days after it was reported by Scout.com and confirmed by South Carolina*, former Gamecocks safety Sheldon Royster has indeed joined the Rutgers football program. Royster was at practice on Tuesday.
“We’re excited to add Sheldon Royster to our team and get him out here practicing with us,” Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said following practice. “Sheldon is somebody we spent a lot of time with during the recruiting process and we’re glad to welcome him back to New Jersey.”
To satisfy NCAA transfer rules, Royster will sit out this season and have three years of eligibility remaining. Royster was a four-star member of USCe’s 2011 recruiting class and was rated as the No. 12 safety in the country. He redshirted as a true freshman last season.
