Knee injury will end the season for USF WR

Today has been the day for season-ending injuries, hasn’t it?

Unfortunately for South Florida, it will add wide receiver Sterling Griffin to that list. Griffin sustained a knee injury during the Bulls’ exciting 32-31 win over Nevada last Saturday and was on crutches to watch Monday’s practice. He can apply for a medical redshirt to possibly receive a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA.

Griffin’s been hurt for a good portion of his career. He missed all of 2010 with an ankle injury only to sit out another four games last year with an ankle injury. Despite the injury problems, Griffin still managed to be USF’s leading receiver last year with 530 yards and three touchdowns.

He had just two catches, one of which went for a touchdown, for 43 yards this year. Both grabs came in USF’s season opener against Chattanooga.
