Penn State’s top two backs ‘day-to-day’

In leading Penn State in rushing in a season-opening loss to Ohio, Bill Belton was injured and replaced in the starting lineup the following week by Derek Day.

In the loss to Virginia Saturday, Day was injured as well. Four days ahead of the Nittany Lions’ third game of the season, the availability of the team’s two leading rushers is unknown.

In an update to the statuses of the two backs, head coach Bill O’ Brien said both players are “day-to-day” to play against Navy Saturday. The good news, though, is that both players are officially listed as “possible” on the injury report.

Day leads the team in rushing with 83 yards, while Belton is second with 53.

The Centre Daily Times notes that junior Curtis Dukes and sophomore Zach Zwinak would likely carry the bulk of the running game load should neither Belton nor Day be able to go.
