Randy Edsall doesn’t see UConn game as special

Well, UConn, you want a shot at Randy Edsall? You get a shot at Randy Edsall. Tomorrow, at 12:30.

There are still plenty of Husky players on this 2012 UConn team who were recruited by, and played for, Edsall before he bolted after the 2011 Fiesta Bowl and became the head coach at Maryland. While some players and fans will have revenge on their minds come tomorrow, Edsall says that Saturday’s home game doesn’t merit any special attention.

This week is no different than any other week to me,” Edsall said Tuesday. “This is game three on our schedule, and our preparation and my focus, I haven’t done anything different up until this point, and I won’t do anything different from here on in. When the game’s over, there will be people I’ll see and say hello to and wish them well, but my approach, my focus, what I need to do to prepare my players, the University of Maryland players, that’s what I’ll continue to do the rest of the week.”

Apparently, that’s not just hot air.

“He hasn’t really mentioned it being a homecoming,” Terps wide receiver Kevin Dorsey said. “He told us before, this is no more important than any other game, no more important than the first game or any ACC game. At the end of the season, we’re trying to get to a certain point and having a certain goal in mind.”

For all the injuries, for as bad as Maryland has looked, the Terps are 2-0 and have a chance to go 3-0 Saturday for the first time since 2001. If that happens, UConn may get another swipe at Edsall next season when the Terps travel to Storrs (we’re assuming Edsall has a job in 2013). Even going 1-1 against Edsall would feel good.
