Two top 25 teams on upset alert

Looking for an upset early this college football Saturday? Look no further than Pittsburgh. The 0-2 Panthers are up 21-3 on No. 13 Virginia Tech at halftime.

Yes, winless Pitt, which has looked downright awful in two games this season, is handing it to Virginia Tech. There’s one (okay, technically four) reason for that: turnovers. Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas has three interceptions and the Panthers recovered a fumble. But Pitt is putting together some nice offensive drives as well. The rushing duo of Ray Graham and Rushel Shell has 120 yards on the ground so far, and quarterback Tino Sunseri is having a good game.

For what it’s worth, no Frank Beamer team has come back from more than 17 points in a football game. Also worth noting: in the event that the Hokies do rally, Pitt has missed two field goals.

Also on upset alert is No. 16 TCU, which leads Kansas 10-6 at the half in its first Big 12 game. The Horned Frogs have been able to move the ball well, but turnovers and a missed field goal are just a few of the miscues keeping the Jayhawks in this game.

Keep an eye on Louisiana-Monroe and Auburn too. The Warhawks, fresh off their upset of Arkansas, are up 14-7 on the Tigers midway through the second quarter.
