A groin injury kept Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones sidelined against FAU on Saturday. The injury itself wasn’t too serious, but it also wasn’t worth risking against the Owls, which UGA beat 56-20 anyway.
But coach Mark Richt does want Jones out on the field next weekend against Vanderbilt. On Sunday, Richt said he was “hopeful” that Jones’ one-week absence would be enough to rest to get him ready to play against the Commodores.
Jones performed in a big way during Week 2’s 41-20 victory over Missouri. He had perhaps the best game of his career with nine tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. The performance has even resulted in Jones getting some dark horse Heisman talk (not that he has much of a chance, but it’s fun to go off the beaten path a little, ya know?).
Additionally, UGA safety Bacarri Rambo and linebacker Alec Ogletree remain suspended. Their status for Saturday is a game-time decision.
