ECU receiver arrested, dismissed

Having already served a one-game suspension for the season opener, Dayon Arrington‘s career at East Carolina has officially come to an end.

In a press release issued late Sunday night, ECU announced that the senior wide receiver has been dismissed from the football program for violating unspecified team rules. The release went on to state that head coach Ruffin McNeill and other ECU officials were informed that Arrington was charged with possession with intent to sell & deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia by the Greenville (NC) Police Department very early Sunday morning.

“Because of previous team rule violations, we do not have any other option than to dismiss Dayon from the team for this incident,” McNeill said in a statement. “It disappoints us when we provide opportunities and situations for young people to put them in a position to succeed and they end up making poor choices and decisions. As a program, we talk about being accountable and there is a penalty to pay for that at times.”

No details of what led to Arrington’s arrest have been made public.

Arrington had played in three games this season and had two catches for 36 yards, including a career-long 29-yard reception in a loss to North Carolina this past weekend. For his career, Arrington played in 26 games and totaled 15 catches for 160 yards.
