Jimbo Fisher explains the difference between show dogs and hunting dogs

In a metaphorical sense, of course. Jimbo Fisher is country deep like that.

Florida State is deep in the conversation for a BCS championship too after the Seminoles beat then No. 10 Clemson 49-37 Saturday night. FSU, perennially thought to be “back”, looks far more focused this season than in the first two years under Fisher. The buzz isn’t ending there. Quarterback EJ Manuel is now getting in on some early-season Heisman discussion.

But if you had to force Fisher’s arm and make him choose between a BCS championship and a Heisman-winning player under his watch, he’d choose to talk about show dogs and hunting dogs.

“Do you want to be a show dog or a hunting dog?” Fisher said in a response to Manuel’s sudden Heisman buzz. “[The Heisman Trophy] has nothing to do with our season. If he would win it, that would be wonderful. That’s all great. But that’s not for him to decide. For him to decide is what kind of teammate he’s going to be. What kind of leader he’s going to be and how he’s going to go each week.

“If you want to parade him around and do all that. I’d rather have a hunting dog.”

Well put, Jimbo.

I think.

Yes.
