LSU, TCU announce ’13 Cowboys Classic agreement

Earlier this month it was reported that a two-game series between LSU and TCU was in the process of morphing into one neutral-site game in 2013.

Less than two weeks later, the morphing was officially completed.

In a pair of press releases, both LSU and TCU confirmed that the two schools will open the 2013 season in the Cowboys Classic on Aug. 31 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

“The Cowboys Classic has become one of the premier events in college football and we are excited about making another appearance there to start the 2013 season on national television, “ LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said in a statement. “The Dallas-Fort Worth area is also rich with LSU supporters and we look forward to taking the Tigers to a great LSU following.”

The teams last met in football in 1968, and the Tigers hold a 5-2-1 edge all-time on the Horned Frogs.

Next year’s game -- the fifth of the series at the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys -- will mark the second time LSU has played in the Cowboys Classic; the Tigers opened the 2011 season with a 40-27 win over then-No. 3 Oregon.
