Washington loses another starting interior lineman to injury

A degenerative arthritic condition in Colin Porter‘s shoulder cost the player his playing career and Washington a starter on the interior of its offensive line for 2012.

Several months after that diagnosis, another starting inside UW lineman has been lost for the season as well.

By way of Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed that starting guard Colin Tanigawa will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury. It’s believed Tanigawa suffered the injury in the Sept. 8 loss to LSU.

The specific nature of the injury has not been divulged.

Tanigawa started the first 11 games of the 2011 season as a redshirt freshman before a knee injury sidelined him for the remainder of the year. He started the first two games of the 2012 before being sidelined with another knee injury.

Porter started 19 games prior to his career-ending condition, which means the Huskies have lost in less than half a year two interior linemen with a combined total of 32 starts. That will leave a mark on just about any team’s running game, as evidenced by the Huskies’ 106th-in-the-nation standing after Week 4 in that category.
