Back in May, John noted that former Penn State assistant football coach Mike McQueary planned on filing a whistleblower lawsuit against Penn State over his treatment in the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
That suit, which can be seen HERE, has been filed officially and covers three counts: whistleblower, defamation and misrepresentation. He is asking for $4 million from Penn State (calculated future earnings as a coach) plus punitive damages, for what is described as “distress, anxiety, humiliation and embarrassment.”
"[Penn State president Graham] Spanier’s statements have irreparably harmed (McQueary’s) reputation for honesty and integrity, and have irreparably harmed (his) ability to earn a living, especially in his chosen profession of coaching football,” the lawsuit says. McQueary’s contract with PSU was not renewed following the scandal.
University spokesperson Dave La Torre declined to comment to the Associated Press.
McQueary played a central role in the indictment of Sandusky, a longtime PSU defensive coordinator who was found guilty of 45 counts of child-sex abuse over the summer. According to a Grand Jury testimony, McQueary, a graduate assistant at the time, saw Sandusky in the showers of the Lasch football facilities building on the PSU campus with a young boy back in 2001. Exactly what McQueary saw still remains a point of discussion, but it was believed to be of a sexual nature.
McQueary then reported what he saw to former coach Joe Paterno, who in turn informed athletic director Tim Curley and former VP Gary Schultz. Curley and Schultz are facing perjury charges stemming from their involvement in the Sandusky scandal.
