Report: Rees to get start at QB for Irish

When No. 5 Notre Dame announced earlier in the week that Everett Golson had been medically cleared and would resume practicing, it was assumed the starter would be under center when the Irish took the field against BYU Saturday.

What’s that saying when it comes to the word “assume?”

First reported by the Chicago Tribune and citing multiple sources, it’s being reported that Tommy Rees will start at quarterback for the Irish for today’s 3:30 ET game against the Cougars. Golson was knocked out of the overtime win against Stanford last weekend and was diagnosed with a concussion.

While Golson has started every game but one this season, Rees, either because of performance or injury issues for Golson, has finished four of those games for the Irish.

Rees will be making his 18th career start for the Irish, and his second this season.
