Chris Johnson leaving Gators, too

It was reported earlier today that Jacoby Brissett had decided to leave the Florida football program. As it turns out, the quarterback isn’t the only Gator heading elsewhere.

In a release confirming Brissett’s departure, UF also announced that running back Chris Johnson (No. 32) intends to transfer from the Gators as well. Johnson had also played safety during his brief time in Gainesville.

“Both Jacoby and Chris expressed an interest in transferring and getting a fresh start,” said head coach Will Muschamp in a statement. “We are very thankful for their contributions to the University of Florida and wish them the best of luck.”

Johnson played in all 26 games the past two seasons, mainly on special teams. He did have 35 yards on five carries in 2012.

As a three-star member of UF’s 2011 recruiting class, Johnson was rated as the No. 37 safety in the nation. Unlike Brissett, there’s no word on where Johnson may land.
