RichRod adds ex-Cal coordinator to Arizona staff

Not retained as part of new head coach Sonny Dykes’ first coaching staff at Cal, veteran assistant coach Jim Michalczik will nonetheless remain in the Pac-12 for the 2013 season.

Arizona announced Tuesday that Michalczik has been hired as Rich Rodriguez‘s offensive line coach. Michalczik had spent nine of the last 11 years as Cal’s line coach, and added the title of offensive coordinator for his last two seasons with the Golden Bears.

In the midst of his nearly decade-long run at Cal, Michalczik left to coach the Oakland Raiders’ line for two seasons (2009-10). Cal isn’t Michalczik’s only Pac-12 experience as he served as an assistant for three seasons at Oregon State beginning in 1999, and he graduated from Washington State in 1988.

He was also a Miami (Fla.) assistant for two seasons (1990-91).

Michalczik will replace Robert Anae, who left earlier this month to once again become the offensive coordinator at BYU.
