On Monday just before Reuben Foster made his commitment to Alabama, South Plantation High School (Fla.) running back Alex Collins announced on FOX Sports South that he would be committing to Arkansas.
But, as is the case every year, there’s at least one high-profile player who pledges to a school before second-guessing himself on Signing Day. It would appear for the time being that Collins is that player.
Per the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Collins did not show up for his school’s signing ceremony Wednesday morning. A placard with his name was removed from a table where the four-star running back was set to sign his letter of intent.
“We’re going to give the family as much time as they need to make the right decision,” South Plantation athletic director Mike Collins told the Sun Sentinel. “At this time there’s no indication of anything other than the original plan. The family just wants more time.”
Collins was also considering Miami, Florida State, Florida and Wisconsin.
Recruiting can be equally exciting and stressful for some athletes. Choosing a college is a big decision, so if Collins needs more time, he should get it.
Updated 12:54 p.m. ET: Naturally, this story was only set to get stranger. ESPN’s Corey Long reported on Wednesday that Collins’ mom, uh, “confiscated” her son’s letter of intent before proceeding to leave the school with it. The word is that Landon Collins’ Alex Collins’ mom is more interested in her son going to someplace closer to home, not Arkansas.

Updated 6:00 p.m. ET: Collins still hasn’t signed with the Hogs, but CBSSports reports that his decision to do so is “imminent.” However, a decision reportedly may not come until Thursday, which is not quite “imminent.” Either way, it appears Collins will end up with the Hogs. Maybe. We think.
