Billy Gonzales hired by Mississippi State

Bill Gonzales is back in the SEC after a one-year absence.

The former Illinois co-offensive coordinator-turned-wide receivers coach was reportedly looking for another job last week. He’s landed at Mississippi State, where he will in fact coach wide receivers.

“I’ve had the chance to work with Billy and the opportunity to add him to our staff was one we couldn’t pass up,” head coach Dan Mullen said in a statement. “His experience in developing receivers speaks for itself and he has consistently and relentlessly recruited top players at every stop of his career.”

Gonzales was an assistant at LSU for two years before coming to Illinois.

Tim Brewster, who was previously MSU’s wide receivers coach, will move to tight ends. Scott Sallach, who previously held that position, will move to Coordinator of Football Scouting.
