With the offseason arrest season in full swing, Middle Tennessee State is the latest FBS program to feel the sting of an off-field incident.
According to the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal, five current or former MTSU athletes were arrested and charged early Sunday morning following an altercation at a local nightclub. The current football Blue Raiders arrested were wide receiver Marcus Henry (pictured), cornerback Jared Singletary and offensive lineman Adam Stickel.
Two former MTSU football players were arrested as well -- Anthony Amos and defensive lineman Jerrold Frazier. The former was far and away MTSU’s leading receiver last season and is a 2013 NFL Draft prospect, while the latter was dismissed from the football program recently for unrelated reasons.
In the paper’s report, and aside from a basketball player, there’s no other indication that anyone else was arrested or charged in connection to the brouhaha.
“I was disappointed to learn the arrests of three current and two former football players,” head coach Rick Stockstill said in a statement. “This is not the reflection of our football program we want at Middle Tennessee and we will react accordingly after gathering all the information. We always try to represent our university to the highest standards and matters like this are taken very seriously.”
While no details of the fight that led to the arrest have been released, the specific charges were: the 20-year-old Henry, disorderly conduct and both evading and resisting arrest; the 18-year-old Stickel, underage consumption, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public intoxication; and the 19-year-old Singletary, disorderly conduct.
Henry started four of the six games in which he played last season, finishing 2012 with nine receptions for 182 yards and a touchdown. Singletary appeared in six games, while Stickel took a redshirt as a true freshman.
