Injury likely knocks starting Sooners lineman out for the spring

One of the positive benefits of spring practice is the opportunity to get a meaningful jumpstart on the upcoming seasons. One of the negatives? An increased risk of injury.

Unfortunately, the latter’s where Oklahoma reportedly finds itself entering a new week.

According to multiple media outlets, Sooners center Gabe Ikard suffered a broken hand during practice Sunday. It was the second of 15 spring sessions for OU.

While the school has yet to confirm the severity of the injury, it’s not expected to impacted Ikard’s availability for the start of summer camp let alone the start of the 2013 season. It’s also believed that the injury will not negatively impact any future “Horns Down” salutes.

For the past two seasons, Ikard has been a first-team All-Big 12 selection. He’s started 37 games in his OU career.
