Three starters likely out for Michigan State this spring

As Michigan State gets set to commence spring practice Tuesday, the Spartans will do so without the services of a couple of starters from each side of the ball.

The football program released its spring roster Monday, with starters Darqueze Dennard (cornerback, pictured), Denicos Allen (linebacker) and Jack Allen (offensive lineman) all listed as injured. It’s been confirmed that Denicos Allen (foot) and Jack Allen (unknown) underwent surgery this offseason.

The injuries and subsequent rehab will keep all three players out of most or all of the 15 spring sessions.

Denicos Allen started all 13 games last season and finished third on the team in tackles with 79, while Dennard also started all 13 games and was a first-team All-Big Ten selection. Jack Allen started 12 games (seven at center; five at left guard) in 2012.

In other roster news, Dan France, who started 11 games at left tackle last year, is listed as the starting right guard. Also, as expected, Andrew Maxwell is listed as the starting quarterback, followed by Connor Cook and Tyler O’Connor.
