Herd’s leading rusher popped for underage consumption

For the second time this month, a member of the Marshall football program has found himself in the midst of an off-field issue.

According to the Charleston Daily Mail, running back Kevin Grooms was arrested by Huntington police Sunday morning and charged with (gasp!) underage consumption of alcohol. An obstruction charge was tacked on for good measure.

The real kick in the footballs for Grooms? He will turn 21 May 20.

“We are aware of Kevin’s situation and will handle it appropriately and internally,” the school said in a statement.

After redshirting as a true freshman, Grooms led Marshall last year 737 yards rushing and eight touchdowns, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He was named Conference USA’s Freshman of the Year following the 2012 season.
