2015 Tar Heels-Gamecocks game to be played in Charlotte

Continuing a trend that’s a handful of years in the making, 2015 non-conference opponents will soon announce its game will be played on a neutral field.

According to the Charlotte Observer, the Sept. 5, 2015 North Carolina-South Carolina game will be played at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, home of the NFL’s Panthers and the ACC championship game. An official announcement is expected to come Thursday morning.

That game will serve as the season opener for both schools.

The two teams will also open the 2013 season against each other Aug. 29 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. That game will mark the first time the two neighbors have faced each other in football since the 2007 season, a 21-15 road victory for the Gamecocks.
