Touted prep QB Kyle Allen commits to A&M

For those of you wondering who will replace Johnny Manziel under center if/when he leaves Texas A&M early for the NFL, your answer could’ve come via Twitter Monday afternoon.

On the social media website, Arizona high school prospect Kyle Allen announced that he has given a verbal commitment to the Aggies and head coach Kevin Sumlin. Obviously, a verbal is non-binding, but it’s yet another huge get for the newly-minted SEC football program.

“I will be playing my college football for Coach Sumlin at TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY!! GIG EM!!” the quarterback tweeted.

“YESSIR!” tweeted Sumlin, who cannot by NCAA rules address any potential recruit by name but was no doubt responding to Allen’s decision.

Allen is rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports.com and a three-star by Rivals.com. The former recruiting site has him currently listed as the No. 4 pro-style quarterback while the latter places him at No. 15 in that category.

In choosing A&M, Allen opted for the Aggies over the likes of Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State and UCLA. Those five schools comprised Allen’s list of finalists.
