Charges against nation’s leading rusher dropped

As Ka’Deem Carey prepares to defend his 2012 rushing title, he’ll have one less off-field situation lingering over his shoulder.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, all charges related to a domestic violence incident involving the Arizona running back and his pregnant girlfriend have been dropped. In December, Carey was charged with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct as well as being slapped with an order of protection.

“A key witness for the prosecution is unavailable , and even if the witness were available, there is no substantial likelihood that a judge would convict Mr. Carey,” a statement from the city of Tucson read in explaining the charges being dropped.

Carey, who participated in spring practice this year, led the nation in rushing in 2012 with a school-record 1,929 yards. His 23 touchdowns were also a school record.
