(And, no, he doesn’t have the same haircut. Unfortunately.)
National Signing Day for the class of 2014 is still a good eight months away, but Memphis has received the verbal commitment of a quarterback with a recognizable last name.
Per Sam Khan Jr. of ESPN.com, Clay Holgorsen, the nephew of West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen, has given the Tigers his non-binding commitment. Khan notes Holgorsen was offered by Memphis on Friday before committing a day later.
Holgorsen, at 6-foot-1 and 183 pounds out of James E. Taylor HS in Katy, Texas, is currently considered a two-star quarterback by Rivals.com and held offers from Louisiana Tech and Troy. He does not, however, hold a scholarship offer from WVU. The Mountaineers recently brought aboard Florida State transfer Clint Trickett, who will have two years of eligibility remaining.
