BYU’s starting CB done for the year with ACL tear

Bad news has come out of preseason camp for BYU.

The university announced on Monday that starting cornerback Jordan Johnson suffered a torn ACL during practice. The injury was confirmed through a MRI and surgery is required. As a result, Johnson will miss the entire 2013 seasons.

It’s a brutal blow for the Cougars on multiple levels. Johnson started 12 games for BYU in 2012 and finished the season with a team-high 15 pass break-ups to go along with an interception and 48 tackles.

But Johnson’s injury also means BYU is getting dangerously thinner at cornerback. Junior college transfer Trenton Trammell also has a season-ending knee injury. Sam Lee, another JUCO transfer, and Mike Hague are coming off of injuries. With Johnson out, BYU could now be looking to true freshman Dallin Leavitt to potentially start at one corner spot.
