Suspended indefinitely since an off-campus incident in April, Tra’Von Chapman has seen his time as a Pittsburgh Panther come to an end.
Citing a source close to the player, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that Chapman has been dismissed from the football program. The quarterback was informed of the decision by head coach Paul Chryst Thursday.
The school subsequently confirmed Chapman’s been dismissed.
Following that April incident involving an ex-girlfriend, Chapman was charged with assault, a first-degree misdemeanor, and one count of unlawful restraint. He ultimately pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of assault, but still served three days in a jail.
The 6-2, 200-pound Chapman was a four-star member of Pitt’s 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 12 dual-threat quarterback in the country. He was an early enrollee and participated in spring practice.
