Two more LaTech players granted additional eligibility

Two weeks ago, Louisiana Tech announced three players had received a sixth season of eligibility.

Shortly before the start of a new season, another pair of players have received some good news from the NCAA as well.

Tech announced via a press release that Larry Banks and Scott Cathcart have been granted a fifth season of eligibility. From the release:

Banks, an offensive lineman from Fayette, Miss., sustained a season-ending shoulder injury in the first game of the year at Southern Miss in 2011. He had previously played two years at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in 2009 and 2010 and played in all 12 games last season, starting in four.

Cathcart, a wide receiver from Santa Maria, Calif., appeared in one game in 2011 at Idaho before sustaining a season-ending knee injury. Prior to Louisiana Tech he played for two years at Allan Hancock Community College. Cathcart made one appearance last season in LA Tech’s 70-28 win over Idaho.

The school noted in its release that it’s still waiting to hear from the NCAA on the appeals for immediately eligibility for two additional players: Joseph Brunson (Louisiana-Lafayette) and Paul Turner (LSU).
