Alabama bar has a ‘Johnny Pinata’ for fans to whack

Forget having a bar where everybody knows your name.

In Alabama, there’s a bar where everybody can take a whack at Johnny Football.

With the huge matchup between the Crimson Tide and Texas A&M coming up on Saturday, Otey’s Tavern in Mountain Brook, Ala., has gotten into the spirit of things by hanging a 30-inch pinata of the defending Heisman winner inside the bar.

“Johnny Piñata,” as he’s called, stands atop an A&M helmet and comes with a Sharpie in one hand, fake money in the other, and a dollar sign over his number 2 jersey.
Shelly Pricer of It’s My Party in Cullman created “Johnny Pinata,” who has a Sharpie in one hand and fake money in the other.

The plan is to let Otey’s customers take their shots at Johnny Piñata during the bar’s weekly trivia night on Wednesday, and if he survives that, they may get to whack away at him some more during the game Saturday.

Here’s a pic of the pinata:

You’ve got to hand it to the Alabama fans. They always come up with new and creative ways to show off their school spirit. At least this time no trees were killed.

And one thing is for sure: Whether the Tide wins or loses, this pinata won’t last the weekend.
