Rutgers WR Miles Shuler transfers to Northwestern

Northwestern announced the addition of former Rutgers wide receiver Miles Shuler on Saturday. Shuler will join the program immediately and sit out the 2013-14 football season. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.

Shuler appeared in 30 games for Rutgers University during his freshman and sophomore seasons, registering five receptions for 71 yards and seven rushes for 69 yards. The wide receiver also blocked one punt and returned one punt for 23 yards and one kickoff for 17 yards as a special teams contributor for the Scarlet Knights.

The New Jersey native played quarterback, cornerback and safety at Long Branch High School in New Jersey, and participated in the 2011 U.S. Army All-America game. Shuler won the New Jersey state championship in the 100-meter dash and the indoor 55-meter dash for the Long Branch track team, recording the second-faster 55-meter time in the nation for a high school sprinter as a junior.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Shuler could conceivably play the same type of all-purpose offensive role Kain Colter currently plays for the Wildcats.
