Terrel Hunt to start at QB for Syracuse against Tulane

Syracuse has found a new quarterback.

A couple days after he went 15 of 18 for 265 yards and three touchdowns in a 54-0 win over FCS foe Wagner, Terrel Hunt has been named the Orange’s starter against Tulane this coming Saturday, head coach Scott Shafer said on Monday.

It will be the sophomore’s first career start.

Drew Allen has started all of Syracuse’s games at quarterback so far this season, but his performance has been less than stellar. Allen already has six interceptions and has thrown just two touchdown passes. He has a passer rating of 101.26.

Hunt has been far more proficient as his backup, completing 17 of 22 passes on the season with three touchdowns and no interceptions. His passer rating is 231.85. He took over against Wagner after Allen failed to get a first down on ‘Cuse’s first three possessions.

Meanwhile, Hunt has led the Syracuse offense on touchdown marches on all seven of his drives this season. That’s a pretty impressive number, so perhaps Hunt is the spark that the 1-2 Orange needs as it gets ready to head into ACC play three weeks from now against No. 3 Clemson.
