Texas’ leading receiver ruled out of K-State game

As if Mack Brown didn’t have enough problems on his doorstep, now the embattled head coach will be without one of his top offensive playmakers as the Longhorns look to avoid going 1-3 for the first time since the fifties.

Prior to kickoff of the game against Kansas State, UT announced that wide receiver Mike Davis will not play due to injury. Davis has been dealing with an ankle issue and had been questionable, at best, throughout the week leading up to the conference opener.

Davis leads the Longhorns in receptions (20) and receiving touchdowns (four). He’s second in receiving yards (223).

The loss of Davis is in addition to Daje Johnson, who had previously been ruled out due to his own ankle issue. Johnson has averaged more than 22 yards a catch and more than eight yards a rush this season.

Davis on the sidelines also somewhat mitigates the return of starting quarterback David Ash, who missed the loss to Ole Miss last week with a concussion.
