Fresno State announced Saturday the launch of its website DC4Heisman.com to promote the Bulldogs’ Heisman Trophy candidate, Derek Carr.
The nifty website features highlight videos, photos, stats, story lines, records and also a look into his personal life. Social media sites on Twitter (@DC4Heisman) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/DC4Heisman) were also launched on his behalf.
Carr has led the Bulldogs into the national rankings at No. 25 for the first time since 2008. He currently has 145 consecutive passes without throwing an interception and has a career touchdown-to-interception ratio of 75-to-17. He leads all active FBS quarterbacks by throwing for a touchdown in 23 consecutive games.
In three games he is throwing for 373.3 yards per game and has 12 touchdown passes against one interception.
“I think his value to our team is as high as anybody in the country in their value to their team,” head coach Tim DeRuyter said. “The guy’s a winner, it doesn’t matter what the score is, he’s going to find a way to win the football game. He’s got a lot of talent, but he’s got a lot more heart.”
Carr is also on board the campaign.
“To me, I’m all for it because it’s great for our program, it’s great for recruiting and all that stuff so if it can bring great recruits here and help out this program I’m all for it,” Carr said of launching the campaign. “No one puts more pressure on me than myself. The thing that keeps me grounded through all this is first and foremost my faith. I know who I am as a person, I don’t get caught up in the Heisman, I don’t get caught up in the BCS bowls, I don’t get caught up in that stuff.
If all goes according to plan, Carr wouldn’t be the first in his family to have an impact on a Heisman race. His older brother, David, was a finalist for the trophy, finishing fifth in 2001.
But can the younger Carr make an impact as well? I think if he leads hit team to an undefeated season while producing stellar numbers, he has a chance to make it to New York. It does hurt that there are no quality opponents left on his schedule. His brother used wins over Colorado, Oregon State and Wisconsin to make a name for himself in 2001. Carr will have to rely on incredible numbers and his campaign to get the word out about his talents.
