Report: Minneapolis wants 2017 title game

Minneapolis will submit a bid for the 2017 College Football Championship Game, according to a report on Sunday from Jeremy Fowler of CBSSports.com.

Minnesota Viking vice president Lester Bagley told Fowler that his organization, plus the Timberwolves, the Twins, the University of Minnesota and the city’s visitor’s bureau is ready to put a lot of money behind the effort.

The city could have plenty of competition in its bid, including from Jacksonville, Miami, San Antonio, San Francisco and Tampa.

Playing in Minnesota in January means snow could play a factor, but Fowler believes potential weather concerns could be offset by the allure of the new Vikings Stadium, set to open in 2016.

The College Football Playoff’s first title game in 2015 is expected to be played in Dallas.
