Rutgers schedules four future games with Temple

Go ahead, get your yawns and who cares out of the way...

...

Now, with that taken care of, Rutgers announced Monday that it has scheduled four future games with fellow AAC member Temple. The Scarlet Knights, who will have moved to the Big Ten by then, will host the Owls Sept. 19, 2020, and Sept. 17, 2022, while Rutgers will visit Temple in Philadelphia on September 11, 2021.

The fourth game will be played in Philadelphia in September of 2023, although a specific day has yet to be determined.

“I know about the Temple-Rutgers rivalry, but hadn’t had a chance to be a part of it,” said Temple head coach Matt Rhule in a statement. “This year will be my first year going against them and I know it’s great for both schools to compete against one another when geographically we are so close. I was disappointed to see that they were moving from our conference, but excited now to see that they are back on our schedule in a few years.”

The football programs have met 35 times previously, the last coming in 2012. Rutgers holds a 20-15 edge in the series, with a conference game still remaining later on this season.

The two have played 30 of the past 35 seasons, although there will now be a seven-year break in the series.
