Alabama loses starting center for at least ‘a couple of weeks’

Just as Alabama’s revamped offensive line was starting to gel, one of its starters will be sidelined for a bit of time.

In his postgame press conference, head coach Nick Saban announced that center Ryan Kelly suffered an MCL injury in the win over Ole Miss. The sophomore suffered the injury in the second quarter and did not return.

As a result of the injury, Kelly will miss “a couple of weeks, maybe three,” Saban said. The Tide faces Georgia State, Kentucky and Arkansas the next three weeks.

After playing in nine games as a redshirt freshman last season, Kelly started the first four games this year.

Kelly was replaced by Chad Lindsay. It’s unclear if the junior will remain the starter in Kelly’s absence or if Saban and his staff will mix and match along the line.
