Ex-Jayhawk Marquel Combs drops down to FCS level

A little over a week after being granted his release by Kansas, Marquel Combs has found a new football home.

Southeastern Louisiana announced Monday that the once-touted defensive tackle has signed with the school and will continue his playing career with the FCS program. As the Lions play at a lower level than the FBS, Combs will be eligible to play immediately.

“We are very excited to have someone of Marquel’s talents become a Lion,” head coach Ron Roberts said in a statement. “In addition to his athletic abilities, he’s a high-character young man who is going to be an asset to our program on and off the field.”

Combs was one of the most sought after JUCO recruits in the Class of 2013 and was expected to contribute immediately to the Jayhawks’ defense. Instead, Combs did not play a single down at KU before asking for his release to transfer.
