Florida State racks up ACC weekly honors

After smashing Clemson Saturday night, a slew of Florida State players took home ACC weekly honors announced Monday.

Quarterback Jameis Winston earned offensive player of the week and rookie of the week awards (he won those two awards at the national level, too), while cornerback LaMarcus Joyner was named the conference’s defensive back of the week.

Seminoles offensive lineman Cameron Erving, receiver Rashad Greene and linebacker Telvin Smith also earned player of the week honors at their respective positions.

Winston completed 23 of 44 passes for 444 yards with three touchdowns and added a rushing score in Florida State’s 52-14 win over Clemson Saturday night. He’s still behind Oregon’s Marcus Mariota in the Heisman chase, according to our own Chris Huston, but has some ridiculous numbers on the season: 71.3 percent completion rate; 1,885 yards; 20 touchdowns to three interceptions.

Consider this: E.J. Manuel, the only quarterback taken in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, had a career high of 23 touchdowns at Florida State. Winston might tie or break that mark this weekend against N.C. State in Tallahassee.
