NC State gets QB Brandon Mitchell back for FSU game

If N.C. State has any hope of upsetting Florida State for a second straight year, they’ll do it with the guy who started the season for them at quarterback.

Coach Dave Doeren said Monday quarterback Brandon Mitchell, who was injured in N.C. State’s first game of the season, will return for Saturday’s game with No. 2 Florida State in Tallahassee. Mitchell suffered a broken left foot on the third series of N.C. State’s season opener against Louisiana Tech, and completed all three of his pass attempts for 91 yards in the game.

Even if Mitchell is a little rusty, the Arkansas transfer would appear to be an improvement over Pete Thomas, who’s thrown eight interceptions to three touchdowns with a 60.9 percent completion rate this year.

Despite getting Mitchell back, N.C. State opened the week as a four-touchdown dog to FSU. More realistically, getting him back could help the 3-3 Wolfpack’s shot at bowl eligibility.
