Brian Kelly: Everett Golson can practice if admitted

Notre Dame became eligible for postseason play with their last win, and that could help get a former quarterback back in flow with the Irish moving forward. Everett Golson, who was suspended from the university for academic problems back in May, has kept his eye on returning to Notre Dame and it appears that remains the plan for the Irish.

Talking to the media Thursday, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said if Golson is accepted back in to the university, then he would be eligible to practice with the team as the Irish prepare for whatever bowl game they will be playing in.

“He can [practice], but again, a lot of this is theoretical,” Kelly said according to Blue Gold Illustrated. “If he’s admitted back into school on Dec. 15, he would be eligible to practice. So if that’s the case, then we would practice him. He would not of course [play in a bowl game].

Eve if he is not able to play in a game, Notre Dame having Golson back at practice will help him get caught up to speed with the team heading in to the spring. It also gives Notre Dame a player that can run different offensive plays in practice to scout and practice against, which may come in handy depending on the opponent Notre Dame faces in a bowl game.

If all goes well, Golson will reclaim the starting job starting in the spring and get back in the swing of leading the offense.
