Taylor Martinez could be done at Nebraska

Taylor Martinez may not play another snap with Nebraska due to a slew of lingering injuries.

The latest one, a foot injury, hasn’t improved to the point where coach Bo Pelini can expect Martinez to return this season.

Nebraska needs a win over Michigan State this weekend in Lincoln to move into the driver’s seat in the Big Ten’s Legends division. But facing one of the nation’s top defenses without Martinez, who holds Nebraska records for total offense, touchdown passes and passing yards certainly complicates the Huskers’ odds of a berth in the Big Ten Championship.

Even if Nebraska were to knock off Michigan State, the Huskers still have a trip to Penn State and a home game against Iowa to end the season. Again, without Martinez, that’s a tall order for a team that needed a Hail Mary to beat Northwestern and barely sneaked by a freefalling Michigan side last weekend.

Update: ESPN’s Joe Schad reports Martinez could need six to eight months to recover from his foot injury. Yikes.
