For those hoping to hear more postulating from Ohio State’s in-house Nostradumbass, you’ll be waiting for a while.
As you no doubt have heard by now, Buckeyes wide receiver Evan Spencer made headlines and/or created a stir Monday when he very confidently stated his team would “wipe the field” with the top teams in the country if given the opportunity. That didn’t sit well with fans of other schools -- or, more importantly, Spencer’s head coach.
Speaking to the media Tuesday on the weekly Big Ten coaches teleconference, an obviously-agitated Urban Meyer made it perfectly clear that he was not happy with his player’s comments, comments that he viewed as “disrespecting other teams.” The head coach also made it perfectly clear that would be the last time Spencer gets the opportunity to share what might be locker-room talk with the masses.“I’m very disappointed. I can’t stand that. ... He certainly is not the spokesman for our team. As a result, Evan won’t talk to the media for a long, long time.
“You don’t do that. That’s not good sportsmanship and that’s not what we expect. I understand he’s a young man and made a minor mistake, but we just don’t do that. You talk about your teammates, talk about the team and move on.”
Added Meyer, "[w]hat he believes and what goes on in the locker room certainly doesn’t need to be in the paper.”
To his credit, Spencer took to Twitter Monday night to apologize for the situation that his words created and for which he was chastised by his coach.
